Its not only hunger and poverty many people in India have to deal with. The Hinduism caste system banishes the so called „Parias“ (the untouchables) into the lowest level of society. (Kaste - Portuguese/Spanish casta – race). As a result of not being included in the caste system they are being despised and avoided by the rest of society and especially by people from upper classes.

In the Hinduism belief the „Parias“ are born as humans, because they committed evil deeds in their former life. These evil deeds (Karma) need to be worked off in this life to be able to be born in a higher caste the following life (reincarnation). Belief for many people is legitimation to abandon people to their fate and ignore them. Having no perspective on school or professional education, many people linger trough their lives without shelter. Mostly they live in slums, possess nothing and sleep next to each other on pathways.

A Bowl of Compassion targets on supporting and serving these poor and needy people.

We need to make a start so we chose the most essential need of a human being – food. As a result of your monthly transferred 5 € we can assure to deliver a daily warm meal for one person...and that for a whole month! The needy people will of course receive traditional Indian dishes including rice, Daal (traditional lentil dish) and several vegetables.

A Bowl of Compassion e.V. does not only want to feed people by establishing a soup kitchen, as often criticized, also we want to create an platform in which Indians, which are excluded from the cast system, will be seen as normal human beings. Within this place we want to assure that people from whatever gender, religion, caste or origin will be accepted and appreciated.

We want to make them to understand:
„You are precious, unique and worth loving!“

We would like to do more than just serving food. Education is a privilege for indias "untouchable  children" and its in fact one the the most important aspects considering the future of the kids within society. The Environment our project takes place couldn't be better for our purposes. Two teachers and one supervisor will care about our 50 children in the beginning time. Also they get free meals and drinks as well. During school breaks the kids can play with lots of games like cricket-sets, jumping ropes, footballs and many more. Volunteers from all over the world enrich our place with their appearance also. They can live in our provided guestrooms for only 1,30 Euro a night and get free meals provided as well. Volunteers help a lot to improve the english skills of our children.

The homeless and old people visit us after school for dinner. They also get a free warm meal and get involved in individual dialogues about their life perspectives. In this process the resource orientated work with these poor people is priority to us. Many of these people were working for many decades and have certain skills. Our aim is to find out about these skills and support them as best as we can to get them back to independence again. Buying a sewing-machine for for an experienced woman enables her to set up her own business for example.
